Halle Berry Shares Never Seen Picture Of Her Deceased Father, Jerome Berry
Halle Berry is the type of actress who brings her A-game to every performance. She’s won multiple awards and been in many memorable movies like Losing Isaiah, Boomerang and was even a Bond girl at one time. But aside from all the glitz and glamour Halle has endured some pain in her life. And on Father’s Day, after posting a touching tribute to her late father Jerome Jesse Berry, she revealed details about their relationship that she rarely speaks about.
Halle has always been honest about her biracial background; her mother is White and her father is Black. However she and her father didn’t have the best relationship growing up. Halle’s parents divorced when she was only four years old, leaving Halle and her older sister Heidi to be raised by their mother Judith. During her younger years Halle admitted that she and her father weren’t close, due to his struggles with alcohol addiction. In addition to his personal struggles Halle also revealed that while she was growing up her father was very abusive towards her sister and mother. In a 2007 interview during Inside The Actor’s Studio (via Digital Spy) Halle mentioned her father moved back in when she was 10 years old but things went bad very quickly.
The star told presenter James Lipton: “The hard part for me was he never abused me,” adding: “I was dealing with a lot of guilt because I saw my sister go through terrible beatings. I felt helpless and like a coward because I didn’t do anything and couldn’t do anything.
“I spent many of the early years of my life trying to make sense of all that and recover and find my self-esteem.”
